The challenge

Teams captured safety observations across paper, photos, and chat, then reconstructed the record at the end of a shift. Connectivity gaps turned a slow process into an unreliable one.

Our response

We designed offline-first, making sync state visible, evidence capture fast, and unresolved issues easy to hand off before anyone left the site.

01Observe

Observe

Design around gloves, glare, and interruptions.

Contextual observation changed the interface fundamentals: bigger targets, fewer choices per view, persistent drafts, and strong feedback after every capture.

02Prototype

Prototype

Make sync status impossible to misread.

We tested status language and iconography under interrupted conditions so people always knew what was saved locally, shared, or still needed attention.

03Connect

Connect

One record from site to office.

The field workflow and coordination dashboard share the same issue model, reducing translation work and making ownership visible across teams.

Illustrative outcomes for this fictional case-study narrative, not results from a real client engagement.

It behaves like it understands the job site—not like an office tool squeezed onto a phone.
