The challenge
Kinetic's streak mechanic drove short-term activity but made missed days feel like failure. Users returning after a break faced a product that emphasized what they had lost.
Our response
We reframed progress as rhythm, designed re-entry as a first-class journey, and used motion to celebrate intention rather than perfection.
Question
Look beyond the daily active metric.
Cohort review suggested that rigid streaks improved short bursts while deepening longer lapses. Return confidence became the more useful design measure.
Imagine
Progress with room for real life.
Flexible weekly rhythms, pause choices, and reflection prompts help people adjust a practice without erasing their history.
Move
Motion that communicates, never pressures.
The motion language signals state, continuity, and small moments of completion while respecting reduced-motion preferences throughout.
Representative concept outcomes
Illustrative outcomes for this fictional case-study narrative, not results from a real client engagement.
It motivates without judging. That feels small until you realize it changes whether people come back.
